Lazy Sunday doodling and writing tunes.
Tried out the ArtRage demo featured on Steam. It’s not bad. The GUI is a little cutesy and in-the-way for my tastes but the program itself is a nice little budget compromise between Photoshop and Painter. And it feels pretty snappy on my poor decrepit laptop.
Exporting is all fucked to hell though. Not sure if it’s just because the demo is bugged or if the full program has the same problems. I get a “generic memory error” no matter what I try to save and that’s staying under the size dimensions specified under the trial. I had to go into fullscreen, take a screenshot, paste into photoshop, and export a .png from there.
Can’t really see it replacing photoshop for my usual drawing. I never feel like I have enough fine control with programs that try to mimic actual wet media.
floralbarnowl asked: i was wondering if you could possibly point me in the direction of some new brushes. i keep digging through pages of brushes online but they're mostly specific things like smoke or skin. i just want some good general brushes for drawing in photoshop.
Honestly I really only use standard round and standard square. I play around with opacity and size controls manually. Typically, I tie brush size to pen pressure and edge hardness is usually 100%.
Scattering and dual brush can give you a distressed line like chalk or something but I rarely play with that.
You can use a scattered square brush with the smudge tool for a nice color blending effect.
I always draw and save PSDs at 300dpi and then I manually shrink them down to 72dpi and save as PNG for posting online.
Hope that helps a bit.
I’m at a point where I hate everything I draw. I’ll just post failed experiments until my ability returns.
